What are the benefits of having an album professionally Mastered?
Mastering gives you that professional edge. Your mix will sound its best in multiple environments whether it be the club, a car, your stereo or even an ipod. We can even tailor your master specifically for a chosen environment in case you want it to bang just a little harder in the club.
What should I do to my mixes to get them ready for Mastering?
Have it recorded and mixed the best as you can. Leave -3db to -6db headroom minimum. This will give enough room for the engineer to make changes and polish your audio. Make sure that no clippings occur anywhere on any tracks, stems and on the final mix as well. Concern yourself with the quality of the mix, let us worry about the final output volume.
Is there anything I shouldn’t do to my mix to get it ready for Mastering?
Do not use any compression for sake of volume, limiting or maximizing the final mix. This really limits the mastering available techniques and the dynamic range of the music. Do not try to pre-Master your final mixes by using some processing on the Stereo bus to obtain more volume, we will take care of this.
What is the best resolution and format my stereo mix tracks should be at?
A minimum of 24bit / 44.1 Khz stereo Wav or Aiff or higher bit and sample rates (ex.:24bit/96kHz). The best resolution is to get your stereo mixes at the same rates as your original tracking. Do not use dithering if the wordlenght has not changed (ex.: 24bit ---->to 24bit).
How does it change the sound of a track?
It gives your track an overall balance. It fixes any mistakes in the leveling of your mix. Phase issues are corrected. Proper compression and limiting are added to give your track that really pumping sound.
Why shouldn’t I Master my own recordings?
There are several reasons not to master your own recordings.
First, you are not a mastering engineer. You probably don't have the ears or the experience required to make a great master.
Second, you may not be in a great room. Even if you are, playing the mixes in another great room may reveal elements of your mix that you didn't notice.
Third, you may not own gear capable of making a great master.
, you are too familiar with your mixes. One of the main benefits of having someone else master your music is simply getting another set of ears on the music. They may be able to hear things that you can't, because you're too close to the project.
How does Mastering improve my music?
Your music is your music and your mix is your mix. What we do is enhance your final mix down and give your recording a trained second pair of ears to enhance the final sound, and bring the final output levels up to that of other commercially released music. In the case of stem mixes we have more control and we will bring our years of experience in getting your mix to sit just right. We then master that final mix down and leave you with something which can easily stand up to other music of it’s genre.

Why digital?
We believe digital processing is the best decision for your digital music to preserve the crisp clean sound you’ve created with your productions. Analog processing adds coloration and noise to the signal. Of course there is some school of thought where some people like that coloration. We are here to maintain the integrity of your mix making it as clean as possible so it can compete in the real world music industry of this decade. We use top of the line plugins in a unique combination and reference on multiple playback systems large and small to give you the best sounding digital recording possible. We believe in a crisp clean digital sound from recording through duplication.
How long does it take?
Typically it takes between 3-6 days to receive your mastered track back, depending how busy our studio is with projects.
What is Audio Mastering?
Mastering is the process of finalizing a recording in preparation for duplication to CD or other media or in preparation for digital release. Mastering is an art and a science, performed by specialized engineers in highly treated rooms with high-end equipment, calibrated and tuned to the room.
What are the processes involved?
Equalization - The mastering engineer will apply (usually subtle) EQ to your mixes to make them sound better and more consistent with each other. In other words, make them sound like they belong on the same album.
Compression/Limiting and Levels - Many styles of music use compression on the master tracks. In the case of modern rock and metal, sometimes extreme amounts of compression are used into order to make the songs consistently loud.
Cleaning up the recording - Removing clicks and pops, cleaning up edit points, etc.
